Introduction

Over the past few weeks I have been meditating on Matthew Chapter 9 and asking God to give me light into the scripture.

This lesson is one of the many things I have learnt from Matthew 9. When I am inspired to, I will share the other lessons with you.

This piece focuses on the verses 18 to 26.

Scripture

Matthew 9: 18-26

The Lesson

In this scripture, a synagogue official entreats Jesus to come to his house and lay hands on his dead daughter so that she lives.

When Jesus gets to the house, he finds flute players and a crowd, all making noise. Immediately, Jesus asks them to leave and makes a positive confession “that the girl is not dead”.

The Bible says they laughed at him. Regardless, he sends them all out, enters the room, takes the girl by the hand and she gets up.

Between you and your miracle or breakthrough or fulfilment of prophecy is a lot of noise. The devil is well aware of the power of God and will stand in your way with a lot of things to distract you. The question is do you know the power of your God?

The noise is representative of doubt; the negative doctors report; the negative friends; the negative counsel and all the negative things that make your miracle seem so remote.

Jesus knew how distractive  noise can  be so immediately he arrived and saw the crowd and disorder, he ordered them all out.

Do not entertain the noise! The voices in your head that tell you it is not possible – do not entertain them!

Rebuke the noise; reject the doctors report – counter it with a positive confession. When they say you will die, say “NO! I will not die but live to declare the works of the Lord”. Silence the noise! Do not let the distraction make you forget the power of God to turn your situation around. Focus on the power and not the noise around you!

So when the crowd had been sent out, Jesus entered and took the girl by the hand and she got up. Once you get rid of the noise you are empowered to take that bold step in faith and claim your miracle. You cannot operate in faith with all the noise. To “call forth things that are not as though they were” (Rom 4:17) you need to silence the noise.

People will laugh; people will say all kinds of things but what has your God said about your situation? That should be your focus! Focus on God‘s word and shut everything else out. In the face of cancer – focus on God. In the face of barrenness – focus on God. In the face of whatever damning diagnosis or prognosis you receive – focus on God.

It is so crucial that you be still because in the stillness God will surely manifest himself. In Psalm 46 v 10 we read “be still and know that I am God”. The word “still” means not moving or making a sound. The verses preceding Psalm 46 v 10 tell us of God’s power – but to see the manifestations you have got to be still.

Psalm 46:8-10:

“Come, behold the works of the LORD,

Who has made desolations in the earth.

He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;

He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;

He burns the chariot in the fire.

Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!”

How powerful is our God! So today’s lesson is simple – silence the noise and watch God do His work!

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, indeed I have made you too small in my eyes. I have given doubt and all the noise such a hold over me that they have drowned my faith in You. Forgive me!

Today I know how important it is to be still and silence the voices of doubt. By the power in the name of Jesus, I silence the voices of doubt and despair. Today they loose their hold over me.

Empower me by the Holy Spirit to fix my eyes on You, the author and finisher of my faith.
And now Lord, I invite you to take charge of my situation and turn things around for me in Jesus’ name. Amen
